Air Elimination Safti UltraGuard with 0.2micro m IV in-line filter has vents for air elimination and prevents air embolism which is a great health hazard and is potentially fatal. During priming, the major membrane on the IV filter is wetted and thus incapable of passing air. Any air traveling into the IV filter is then forced to escape through the hydrophobic vent.

Particle Retention Manufacturing by – products, such as pieces of plastic and glass fragments from broken ampoules can be withdrawn into the syringe along with the drug product and administered to the patient. Safti Ultra Guard prevents these foreign particles from reaching the patient. Drug Precipitate such as paclitaxel, ganciclovir and mannitol precipitate out of the solution under certain conditions and can cause vein irritation, phlebitis and even lead to infection. Safti Ultra Guard protects from these drug precipitates.

Lipid Micelles, formed from lipid droplets in solution can aggregate, creating very large lipid globules that can exceed 5 micro m in size. These aggregates can become trapped in pulmonary capillaries, acting as nidus for infection and potentially hazardous immune reactions. Bacterial / Fungal Retention if a parenteral solution becomes contaminated with bacteria or fungi, Safti Ultra Guard reduces the potential for these organisms from reaching the patient.

Endotoxin Retention over an extended period of time, the bacteria break down and generate negatively charged endotoxins which can cause fever and other infection like reactions that can lead to serious complications in immune compromised patients. Though bacteria associated endotoxins slip through a 0.2Micro m filter, Safti Ultra Guard with 0.20micro m in-line filter has a net positive charge that electro statically attracts and retains the endotoxins as they are generated.
